Malmö
Pedrali - 2012

Variation on the theme.

We have a deep admiration for the Masters of design who have combined cabinet-making knowledge with industrial production, as in the exemplary Italian and Scandinavian cases of the last century. Starting from the theme that links these two craft traditions and keeping their formal accents, Malmö represents an original variation. The most important distinguishing factor, which optimizes large-scale production, lies in the separation between the load-bearing structure and the seat.

Pleased to seat you.

Malmö's first drawing had been discovered by one of us among another's notes. From that gesture of attention, the commitment to design it better and better was born, studying it on human measures, until creating a 1:1 scale drawing. The artisan friends made their workshops available to us and helped us to create the first models. As they were being built, the exchange of ideas grew, the components were lightened by any superfluous, in a dialectical and open evolution, elastic like our desire to learn. We finally had a prototype, tangible proof of the feasibility of an idea. With this we had our first meeting with Pedrali.

Anatomy of a chair.

The seat is a curved plywood shell screwed to the supporting structure in solid ash. The structural frame is constructed to be seen as little as possible, contributing to the sensation of visual lightness of the object.

The legs are tapered so as to concentrate the mass near the joints and reduce it at the ends. This shape combined with the inclination makes Malmö the abstract synthesis of a quadruped with its natural impetus.

The armrest connects the legs of the armchair in an organic and visually soft way. The external line of the armrest is in continuity with the curve of the backrest, as if the seat stretched out in an embrace. A thickening of the section, near the person's hand, invites the contact of natural matter.

Malmö legacy:

The Malmö family, with its great variety of products, warms many kind of eviroments for the community. The lounge and relax armchair, with large and welcoming bodies, stools, tables and coffee tables are all united by an ash structure with tapered legs, sinuous and natural lines that contribute to a clear and hospitable atmosphere.

WANDERLUST

Passion and idea.

Designers have the role of getting a group of people passionate about an idea: entrepreneurs, technicians, workers and salespeople. A good design, if you like, pushes everyone to give their best: everyone is committed to making the project come true and to be understood, known and used. A good design that becomes concrete is a goal for everyone and not merely a source of pride for designers.
