Diòniso
Pianca - 2017

Bed is in the details.

Diòniso is a bed with a large and soft headboard to lean on to while reading, thinking or getting ready for your dreams. It actually looks like the back of a seat, and the bed itself has a structure similar to an armchair one, where the armrests are replaced by trays in solid ash, rotating on a pin to move closer or further away.

Sleep in the levity.

The tapered ash wood legs have a variable section that shrinks towards the floor and widens near the connection to the frame. They have an elliptical section that lightens their visual impact and, due to the smoothness of its shape, reduces the possibility of damage from accidental impacts. These curved surfaces create a light diffusing and shadow blurring effect that gives the bed a soft and friendly appearance. The tapered legs increase the perceived height of the bed, evoking lightness, a design quality which is very dear to us.

Handy.

The rotating trays have a rounded trapezoidal shape. Their surface has an edge: the support surface is lower, carved in solid wood. This avoids accidental falling of objects during the rotation of the tray. The rotation pin is inserted in the rear leg, therefore the totally smooth and silent mechanism is invisible. Two-end stops ensure that the tops always rotate only within a useful arc, without invading the space dedicated to the person, nor touching the wall the bed possibly leans to.

WANDERLUST

I've already read it somewhere.

Diòniso is the Greek divinity of the liberation of the senses, with all the nuances that this can have from the heady scent of spring plants to the ecstasy of love, to the pleasure of sleep. The Diòniso bed borrows from this image the idea of a living, active space, which breaks the conventional patterns to encourage daytime and solar use.

Picasso and Diòniso must have been very close friends, because of the habit they share: getting loose from the ties of civilization. Deux femmes se reposant, reunited with an original peace.
