Park+
Blå Station - 2020

The sun inside.

Park+ is a lounge seating system that brings a sunny disposition indoors, into halls, waiting rooms, airport corridors Our aim was to make the archetypical form of a bench softer by changing materials. The sides are made of solid ash and the slats, which are the seat and the back, are soft, padded, upholstered fabric or leather.

The sculptor Phidias in the metopes of the Parthenon frieze gives us an idea of how much dynamism can be transmitted by a static object, through the use of diagonals, the proportions and the tapered shapes typical of the moving body.

Don’t stop me now!

Park+ can be used as a single object within a space, but it expresses its maximum potential in combinations of multiple seats. The wooden sides in fact can be connected to the beams indifferently on both sides, allowing a potentially infinite number of seats to be arranged in linear succession!

The inside and the outside.

The shape of the structural sides retrace, with well defined, linear segments, the iconic geometry of an outdoor bench. Inclination changes to give dynamism, or rather visual lightness, to the object. The depth of the seat is increased and the height is reduced to encourage an informal posture.

The surface of the solid wood of the side frames are slightly lenticular and the edges are rounded. These two details increase the perception of softness and the pleasure of touching the armrests.

The seat and back beams are made from a curved plywood shell which is then padded and upholstered. The plywood is curved to form an inverted “U” profile that makes these elements structural. Seat beams are spaced apart to avoid the accumulation of dirt and make cleaning easy.

WANDERLUST

The space is the place.

Possible configurations of Park+ increase exponentially thanks to the table. A coffee table, with an ash wood top, can be connected through a metal tube to the wooden side of the bench.
The table can be connected on two sides acting as a trait-d’union between two seats. The connecting metal tubes rotate around a central pivot hidden under the table.

Sofas can be arranged around the table in order to form an angle of a desired breadth, both concave and convex!

It is thus possible to create configurations that follow the pre-existing complexity of an architecture, or to use this potential to describe areas within the open space, or to identify paths that articulate through the plan according to a desired geometry.
